Jansport Air Pack
I love spending time outside with my art, either painting, taking photographs, or just sitting around in coffee shops searching for a muse or inspiration of sorts. I almost always carry at least a camera, some paper, pencils, pens, and whatever I think I may need to satisfy a sudden creative urge with me. So, a while ago I started looking for a new “haul bag” in the form of a daypack or backpack. I wanted something that as comfortable, spacious and also a little funky (as I am!) I ended up looking at the Jansport range of bags as these seem to be designed mostly for students with books, pens and other things and I found the utility of these bags actually fit my needs as an artist pretty well. I ended up buying the Jansport Air Vital but here are a few of the models I looked at:

Jansport Superbreak Classic Backpack

First on our list is the Jansport Superbreak Classic Backpack. These backpacks are available in a variety of price ranges, from under $14-$35. And of course, they are available in a multitude of color schemes. This backpack features a large main compartment and a pocket on the front that includes an organizer to store all your vital supplies. It has a 1550 cubic inch capacity and is built with padded shoulder straps and a padded, cushioned back that extends two thirds down the length of the backpack. It is constructed from 600 D Poly and 11 W Corduroy. Its dimensions are 16.75″ x 13″ x 8.5″.

Jansport Big Student Backpack

Next item: the Jansport Big Student Backpack. These backpacks are priced anywhere from $23.75 up to $49.99. These Jansport packs are constructed from 600 D polyester and are made with S- curved straps that conform to your shoulders. They are constructed with two main compartments for storing large items such as books and tablets, and also feature a front pocket that has an organizer and headphone port! And at the bottom of these — a stash pocket. A lifetime warranty is included. Dimensions on these backpacks are 17.5″ x 10″ x 13″. I have admit though, some of these look a little dated and my partner said it looked like a diaper bag backpack, which cased me to promptly give it a skip!

Jansport “Hellcat”

Another great looking set of Jansport backpacks are called their “Hellcat” backpacks. Normally priced from $45-$50, they measure 18″ x 14″ x 8.5″ and have a carrying capacity of 2,000 cubic inches. The Hellcat is also made of very durable 600 D polyester and ways about 2 pounds when empty. It has a main compartment as well as a front 3/4-sized storage compartment and a gear stash that is equipped with bungee cord zipper pulls. These packs also feature side compression straps to keep the backpack close to your kids body for less back strain and more comfort.

Jansport Air Vital Street Tech Daypack

The one I got — the Jansport Air Vital Street Tech Daypack. Priced from just under $25 to just under $54, these backpacks are available in innovative colors like Pink Daiquiri, Blue Slate, Surplus Green and Purple Satin. The Air Vital daypack features 1-1/2 main compartments that are equipped with dual interior mesh pockets and a pouch located right up front — how handy! They are also equipped with a security pocket for storing valuable items such as cell phones and iPods, and are also equipped with a cord port, water bottle pocket, and much more.

Jansport Klamath 85 Backpack

Finally, I’d like to mention the Jansport Klamath 85 Backpack. This is a bit more pricey (regular retail price is $175 — but if you look around I’m sure you can find it for sale more cheaply). This line of backpacks are designed especially for travel and all sorts of outdoor and wilderness adventures — it has an internal frame, and extendable lid and bivy, dual-side zippered pockets, not one but two water bottle pockets and a breathable mesh panel located on the back. This one is highly recommended if your child does a lot of camping, hiking or participates in a lot of outdoor activities and needs a good backpack.
